The Upstairs Apartment Gallery

Here is a great article from the Dalhousie Student paper about my friends Stoo Metz, Chris Lockerbie and The Upstairs Apartment Gallery.

I did these a while ago, but I thought I'd post 'em anyway! I'm working on some new stuff at the moment. You'll see...

Thank you to all the people that showed up last night at 'The Upstairs Appartment Gallery'. I was a successful enough to sell several paintings and a print. If you did not get to see the work, the Gallery will still be open for view until Monday January 26, 12:00 -5:00.

Some of my favourite Detectives

"Columbo"

"Joe Friday"

"Eddie Valiant"

These aren't silkscreened prints, they are actually paintings. They were fun to do. I was looking at Jackson Pollock's paintings and really admire the splattered paint techniques he came up with. I thought it would be cool to do something like that, only in representational imagery. I guess these paintings kind of have an Andy Warhol feel to them too.

Acrylic on 8"x8" canvas (x2)

I had one canvas left over. I dropped it and it gave me the idea for this painting. ...It was a lot funnier at the time.

If you're in downtown Halifax the evening of January 23rd, swing by 'The Upstairs Appartment Gallery" at 2420 Agricola Street. All the above paintings will be for sale along with other work of mine and the work of other talented local artists. See you there!

'Family Portrait'

This painting is about how our digital identities are becoming far more prominent then ourselves. We continue ushering new ways to incorporate technology into our lives and have started to communicate more on a digital realm, opposed to actual interaction.

Or, maybe it’s just a frivolous painting of people with electronics for heads. You tell me.

Happy Holidays!

These are both paintings I gave to two of my friends for Christmas.

Acrylic on 8"x8" wood block.

Razzberry Jazzberry Jam!

Get ready! One of the projects I worked on at Cartoon Conrad was a show called 'Razzberry Jazzberry Jam'. It's a fun filled show accompanied with musical mayhem. The first episode will air on Tuesday December 23 at 7:00am on CBC.

Thanks to all the folks who showed up at the Upstairs Appartment Gallery last night. The show was successful and I even sold some work.

Starbucks Slumber

Don't fall asleep at Starbucks - you might be drawn by some creepy artist.

If you are in North End Halifax Friday night December 19th, swing by the Upstairs Apartment Gallery at 2420 Agricola St. There will be art for sale by myself and other talented local artists.

Fruits & Passion

I was talking to a friend of mine 2 weeks ago who mentioned she works at 'Fruits & Passion' now. Instantly, this was the image that popped in my head. Isn't she "appealing"? (...I'll stop)

Layouts

More layouts! On my first posting of these layouts, one of them consisted of an old house in Halifax at night. That same house has been demolished in favour of a new apartment building. I think that's pretty cool that I drew it while it was still there...

Bus Sketches part 2

Here are the rest of the bus sketches. Originally, I planned to do one giant post of all of them at once but my pal, Tony, convinced me to break it up. I think that was a good call. Enjoy.

OK, so this girl knew I was drawing her... She saw me sketching people and asked me to draw her so I said "sure". What else was a going to do? Draw the back of someone's head for the 300th time?

"Yep. I even draw on the Bus."

During my long commute back and forth to work in the summer I would sketch ususpecting passengers on the bus. You will notice that there is not an overabundance of people drawn front on. This is because it is way to obvious to the person you're drawing (and the way I draw is not too subtle most of the time). Except for the time I drew that blind guy. That was great, he had no idea!

I think the guy in the top left corner is the same guy with the purple sweater...

Some of these were colored long after I drew them. The one above and a couple other ones were modeled after the colors the person was actually wearing. I'll post the rest of these sketches next week.
