So here is the first look at my newest
painting, 'THAT LAUGH!'. The painting is a tribute to who I consider to
be the 3 most delirious cartoon personalities to ever grace the silver
screen. (Can you guess who they are?)
Work continues to offer you my best quality
and highest insight in the Thoughts & Progress booklets of the 2 new
paintings. But if you're all antsy and can't wait until they're
official ready, you can pre-order here at a special rate and receive a FREE convention booklet! You can see some of the concept art included in the books below:
I've started work on the 'Thoughts & Progress' booklets
for the 2 new paintings ('Cereal Siege' and 'Sunny Side Corrupt'). What stage
of the process would you most like to see? What questions about the paintings
would you like answered? Please let me know and I'll make sure they're
included. (You can see booklet examples here: http://jonodoironstudio.storenvy.com/collections/117461-books
)
Above: professional Illustrator, Charles Vinh, whom I
learned from during the making of 'Cereal Siege', added on a stage in my
process called 'color studies' (or, color thumbnails). Small studies to come up
with a color schemefor the image that
will then be expanded upon in a larger format. Bottom left is the final line
drawing and next to it is the final tonal.
AT LAST! Here it is - the final painting,
'Cereal Siege'! The original is still available. Or, if anyone would be
interested in a limited print, let me know.
'Cereal Siege' acrylic on masonite 16"x20" (interior), 20"x24" (including frame) available

I had finally watched the movie Drew: The Man Behind the Poster this past week. Excellent documentary - I strongly recommend you to watch it.
Drew Struzan is an acclaimed movie poster artist having amassed unparalleled talent combined with advertising art on some of the greatest films ever made. He has certainly influenced my work and created a great sense of anticipation for movies as a child. I like that the film makers also chose to explore how the movie poster industry has unfortunately decayed over time.
Learning lots from illustrator, Charles Vinh, (http://charlesvinh.daportfolio.com/) in the Illustrative Painting course I'm taking at Syn Studio. Here's the revised rough color, tonal study and under painting of 'Cereal Siege' still in the works.
I'm simultaneously working on 2 paintings
right now. Just finished preparing the surface of the new one (my final
project for the Illustrative Painting class at Syn Studio)
with gesso and all done the planning. Almost ready to paint - my
favorite part of the process. I included a sneak peek of the rough color
study. The painting is called 'Cereal Siege'.
THANK YOU Wondereur and Andy Nulman (http://andynulman.com/) for the excellent

“It is beautiful! From the intuitiveness, artist bios, photos
and art work, I felt immediately connected to the artists in a personal way -
getting to know their quirks, deep dreams and desires for self expression. I
felt I had been let into a personal space that few are allowed. Very cool. Very
thoughtful.”
Just passed a very busy January (in a good way). Shortly into the new year, I started work on a new painting involving a care bear. Some of the process below:
