MAJOR THANKS to Syn Studio for putting on for putting on such an informative event: 'The Gathering of the Masters 2016', a 3 day masterclass workshop I was fortunate to attend! The highlight for me was getting to meet and draw with artist, James Gurney. His book 'Color & Light' is a supreme resource I recommended to realist painters repeatedly: http://jamesgurney.com/…/color-and-light-a-guide-for-the-re…

Adobe Color Wheel
Discovered this really useful color scheme generating tool online from
Adobe that I've been having fun with recently. Great way to understand
the color wheel and discover combinations you may not have thought of.
(I'm always trying to come up with more daring color combinations in my
paintings.) You can even upload reference photos you find and it will
show you the major keys at different values.

Fleeting Focus - palette
My palette for the painting 'Fleeting Focus' all done now (for the 12"x12" show at Galerie Abyss, August 6). James Gurney in his book 'Color and Light' (which I recommend highly)
discusses color strings: premixing separate values of the same color to
save time. (Note the separate mixes of blues and pinks. The Gray in the
corner is the subjective neutral color used for mixing.)

Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter by James Gurney
I've been learning so much from this book
since I bought it 2 months ago. 'Color and Light: A Guide for the
Realist Painter' by James Gurney. Excellent comprehensive resource for any painter
(regardless of medium) wanting to understand and incorporate more
of those two devices into their work.
(Available online and in most book stores. If you buy it directly from James Gurney, he'll even sign it for you: http://jamesgurney.com/site/213/color-and-light-a-guide-for-the-realist-painter )
