I was unbelievably complimented today when I
read Andy Nulman's (President of Just for laughs) newest blog post
exclaiming his delights on the Thoughts & Progress booklet I created
for the painting 'The Boastful Ghost'. Andy instigated the idea for the booklet and he writes about how much value is added in discovering the work that went into something.

Special Guest Artist - Blah Blah Gallery
The website 'Blah Blah Gallery' selected me as
the 'special guest artist' for spring 2013 and posted an interview it
did with me last month all about my work and influences. They asked some
great questions - some of which I've been meaning to ask myself...

Nuit Blanche
I completed this painting for one of the events during the Nuit Blance (http://www.montrealenlumiere.com/nuit-blanche-en/) festival last night. Looking forward to it again next year! (It was for a psychedelic event. It's always a good idea to
do your research and learn what your audience will be when you do a live
painting.)
I'm calling this piece 'Smurfodelic'. Acrylic and ink on masonite, 24"x30"

Live painting from Saturday night1 (Jan. 26)
My pal Peter Farmer (also an artist, http://www.peterfarmer.ca/
) hired myself to create a live painting during his Birthday dinner
celebration shenanigans this past Saturday night. The decor, the food
and festivities all had a Spanish/Latin America theme so that had to be
incorporated into the art. I call this piece "Come back here with my
Sangria!" (featuring Speedy Gonzalez and Condorito). It was completed in
one evening, 2'x4'

Tattooed Pooh
As promised - my contribution to 2013's annual Pre-Shrunk show at Argyle Fine Art!
Tattoos are awesome! I've got 2 and am planning to get more. However - some people end up getting tattoos that they regret later. That was the inspiration for this new painting. What were you THINKING, Pooh?!? Silly ol' bear...
As I write this the piece is still available! Contact the Gallery for purchase. You can check out the entire show here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/62710153@N03/sets/72157632220409811/?page=3

The Boastful Ghost
AT LAST!
So after much deliberation, Casper the friendly ghost is finally ready to take the plunge and get a tattoo! And by none other than his now grown up gal pal, Wendy the Witch! The idea for this painting was thought up over a year ago and was partially instigated by friend and fellow fine artist, Gordon MacDonald.

'The Expediency Factor' process
Here are some photos I found recently that I meant to post earlier and never did of the painting 'The Expediency Factor'
Below is the entire painting process of the image:
Below is the entire painting process of the image:
Very seldom do I paint on canvas now. I prefer painting on wood panel. This is what is looks like before literally any marks are made.
After doing the base coat, transferring the drawing and outlining the characters with ink.
Blocking in the atmosphere. You'll note the digital rough color version above to keep me on track (and save a lot of time!).
Blocking in Two-Face's ...uh, faces. I'll paint to the lines and re-ink them because it's easier to see, but also so the drawing doesn't become lost.
Starting the highlights.
Blocking in the suit.
The head is just about done.
Strengthening highlights on his blazer.
Refining the atmosphere around the characters. This will determine the highlights and colors.

Hot Stuff progression.
Finally added in the pupils!
Figuring out Hot Stuff's shadow.
Getting the detail and perspective right of the coin.

Gallery Nucleus
Hey Folks,
I have a painting for sale right now on Gallery Nucleus' 'POWER IN NUMBERS' online store: http://www.gallerynucleus.com/pin
The way it works, is artists submit original works of various mediums at the strict dimension size of 5"x7". The work is sold for a VERY affordable price and you can take comfort in knowing that a percentage of the profit goes towards a charity.

Tout fait! (all done) The idea for this painting came about
from trying to rationalize just what the heck Grimace IS. What is he? He's this
large, loveable purple cone shaped guy. He doesn't LOOK like any animal, nor
resemble anything on the menu - just what is he?!? His origin remains a mystery.
As if he just appeared one night...
